Final Project

My project, titled New Century War, is about cyber-warfare and how that is playing out in the 21st century. I explore the past attacks spanning from over decade ago to recent times. I utilized sources to pinpoint who the attackers were and what they were seeking. I discuss how as humans we always advance our techniques of warfare, thus the next frontier is cyber-warfare. I make the argument that traditional and conventional warfare tools like guns, tanks and jets will have to take a back seat in the near future. The primary tool for attacks will be through cyber that target national governments and much more. The premise that cyber-warfare will be the primary way we fight is based on the exponential growth of cyber-attacks that we are seeing just in the past few years alone, and the attackers’ perception of the benefits of cyber-attacks that greatly outweigh its cost.

I hope you enjoy the site that I created on this important topic that will touch all of us at some point in the near future. I enjoyed this project as it thought me to organize my thoughts properly, and present them in an appealing format. I have pictures, written content, sources and links to maps on the website.

Blockly

NO MORE! I got to level 10, like most people, and can’t seem to pass this level. I have been doing this for a while and I finally gave up. It is extremely frustrating to get to the last level and not complete it. Anyway, Blockly was an interesting challenge that I will not attempt again.

April 22 – 24 (Archive.org)

I choose to search www.cnet.com and found out what their website looked like in 1996, 2006 and 2013.

The first website for cnet was in 1996, which was a very simple site, as expected for that time. It had lots of material, but it was not my least favorite.

My least favorite was a site a decade later in 2006, it was not organized well for its time. It had too much information and material that was not appealing to the eye.

My favorite is the current site of 2013 because it was interactive with images that are well made and easy on the eye. It offers lots of materials and information, but they are organized and clean.

April 15 to 17

I took an essay I wrote a while back about corporate social responsibility and the focus of the paper was on Deloitte and its impact on the local community, specifically towards students. I inserted my essay to Wordle and this was what came up.

Below is a graph showing the top 4 activities that I roughly spent most of my time with during the spring break this year.

The graph below shows the relationship between my sleep time and hours of studying spent during this semester.

Using Google Charts I got to briefly plan and see the places that I want to visit this summer. I picked 10 locations in Europe that I have been meaning to see for a long time now. Google Charts was easy to use and effective in getting me what I wanted to see in a clear format. Below are the different places that I plotted in the map:

Staying safe at all times while connecting to the internet is a difficult thing to do. Personally I try to safeguard my devices connected to the internet through AVG, which is a decent software that is real effective to this day. Not to mention, the anti-virus software is free and seems to be on par with the other software that require some fee. I try to create different passwords for different sites with letters, numbers and symbols as a collective combination. I also attempt to stay away from websites that threaten my security, but it is not always clear what websites are safe or not. There are sites that stream TV shows or music that have gotten me in trouble in the past, but I have tried to stay away from them in recent years. My computers have been infected by malicious software before and I got to learn a lot from those horrible experiences. I learned how to detect viruses and other things by knowing how my computer was operating differently from before, but that is not always the best way to approach identifying malicious software. That’s why it’s imperative that I get a software that detects the dangers lurking in my devices.

HW5

I looked at teachers pay teachers website and found no ethical dilemma. Teacher’s original work is being sold to members of the website for a certain price, which is legal in this country. This phenomenon is no different then an author of a book selling their work via the web as a form of e-books. There seems to be no ethical dilemma because teachers can do as they like regarding their original work. They can distribute it for free or for a fee to the public, which is perfectly fine in a free and capitalistic nation. I would even go as far as to encourage other teachers to participate in this web site so there is a collaborative effort to better the education system with different sets of ideas from many different participants.
